Who Could benefit With LASIK?

Patients who are now wearing contact lenses, but the lenses are no longer successful or tolerable. The reasons may be reduced lens comfort, decreased wearing time, blurred or fluctuating vision, dry eyes, itchiness, grittiness, watery, stinging, burning, or painful eyes. These patients may make the decision for LASIK.

Patients who have to wear spectacles, but have an occupation, hobby, activity, sport, or cosmetic requirement such as an artist, sportsman, policeman or scuba diver may make the decision for LASIK.

Patients with a significant difference in refraction between the eyes, usually around 3.00 diopters, find it very uncomfortable, giddy, and distracting wearing spectacles. This is because of the difference in image size on the retina, different prismatic effects between eyes, different amounts of accommodation required on each eye, and the possible introduction of diplopia (double vision) when wearing spectacles. Because LASIK brings an end to this problem, these patients may make the decision for LASIK.

Patients who have high astigmatism together with myopia, or astigmatism without myopia, and have spectacles are often very uncomfortable and giddy to wear because of the nature of the prescription. Sometimes contact lenses are not able to achieve the quality of vision that is expected. These patients may make the decision for LASIK.
