Ideal Candidates and Conditions for LASIK
Are of at least 18 years of age
General health is good
Have had a stable prescription for at least one year
Not presently pregnant or breast feeding
Have no health issues affecting the eyes
Have no signs of glaucoma, cataracts, or retinal disease
Not using medications such as anti-inflammatory, steroids, or immunosupressants.
Corneal possesses enough thickness to do the procedure
Pupil size meets the requirements of the limits of the laser procedureIf certain conditions are not met and LASIK is not advisable, there are still other techniques available for high myopia. The other alternative surgical methods available that may be more appropriate in certain circumstances are modified radial keratotomy, photorefractive keratectomy, intra-ocular lens implantation, and cornea ring implants (INTACS).
